Foiled or sprayed edges on hardcover books are an attractive and unique feature that adds a touch of luxury and personalization.

1. Sprayed Edges
Sprayed edges involve applying color or design to the edges of the pages, making the book stand out when viewed from the side.

Process:
Preparation: The book block (the set of pages) is clamped tightly to ensure the edges are even.
Spraying: The edges are then sprayed with ink or paint. This can be a solid color or a pattern, depending on the design.
Drying: The ink or paint is allowed to dry completely before the book is bound.

Options:
Solid Colors: A single color sprayed uniformly on all three sides of the book block.
Patterns and Designs: More intricate designs, such as gradients, speckles, or custom graphics.

2. Foiled Edges
Foiled edges involve the application of metallic foil to the edges of the pages, giving a reflective, shiny finish.

Process:
Gilding Preparation: The book block is clamped and the edges are sanded smooth.
Adhesion: A special adhesive is applied to the edges.
Foil Application: Metallic foil sheets (usually gold, silver, or other metallic colors) are pressed onto the adhesive-covered edges.
Burnishing: The foil is then burnished to ensure it adheres properly and achieves a smooth, reflective finish.

Options:
Colors: Commonly gold and silver, but other metallic colors like bronze, rose gold, and even holographic foils are possible.
Textures: Some foils can have patterns or textures, adding another layer of design.
