Matte vs Gloss Lamination: Which is right for your book?

Often overlooked and under-considered is book cover lamination, or the finish which gives the book protection from the world around it.

If you are the first time to have a printing project, the materials used for producing must confuse you. Finally, the printing manufactory staff have asked about the specifications about size, cover material, finishing, inner paper material, binding, you thought you were relieved. However,“can you tell me which kind of lamination you like, glossy lamination or matte one?” they would keep asking you about something you had never heard before.

So, what is glossy lamination and matte lamination?

I am sure that once you see the product with these two finishing, all of you would with a great “ah ha!”

As you can see the picture, the paper with glossy lamination is more shiny and smooth, and it would trouble you with glare when you see it. But it will be okay if you keep your eyes on the horizontal level with the paper. And the item with glossy lamination is more colorful and fresh.

And the picture 2 is a book cover with matte lamination, the glare has been eliminated completely. Matte lamination makes the product more fashionable and upscale, increasingly prevalent among customers.

No matter you choose the glossy lamination or matte lamination, both of them can protect your books, packaging boxes, posters. The advantage and disadvantage you have learned about, I do believe you will not confused nest time.
