The cover paper weight is based on different binding types and size and page count of the customized softcover books. So below are some desciptions of different binding types of customized softcover books for your reference.

Perfect binding with section sewn: This binding type should be the most common binding type of customized softcover books. For the cover paper weight of the softcover books with perfect binding, we suggest to use 250gsm-400gsm coated paper. And of course you can choose to use the perfect binding but without thye section sewn. The diffrence is the inside pages will be stitching together or not. Perfect binding with section sewn can make sure that the inside pages will be not easy to drop out, but of course it will be more expensive than without section sewn.

Staple binding or saddle stitched binding: This binding type should be the cheapest binding type for the customized softcover books. For the cover paper weight of the softcover books with saddle stitched binding, we suggest to use 157gsm-300gsm coated paper. It is worth noting that the page count of saddle stitched softcover books should be from 8 pages to 60 pages. It will be difficult to use the saddle stitched binding if the page count more than 60 pages.

PUR binding: If you want your customized softcover books to lay flat, the PUR binding is the good choice. PUR binding uses a stronger adhesive, which increases binding strength allowing the book to lie flat. So this is the reason why the PUR binding will be a little more expensive than the normal perfect binding. Also PUR binding is suitable for the heavier weight paper.
